Damas Trees and Blocked Drains

One of the biggest problems that faces villa owners are the roots of trees that are planted next to their property. Unfortunately, some people are not aware of how significant this problem is and how it causes problems too. Here we share our valued customer’s experience with this hurdle. Propetus team was reached out by Ms. Elena Zalmunina,  complaining about the blocked drainage, and pointing out how all the drains flooded on the ground level of her villa.

“I was not aware of the dangers of the Damas tree until one day I had my drainage blocked completely, until I called Proptus team who has immediately pointed out to the Damas tree growing next to my villa and told me that my drainage is blocked by its roots!” 

Although Damas tree is known for its aesthetic look, it causes great damage to underground piping systems, drains, pools boundary walls and even foundation! Evergreen and fast growing, Damas tree (Conocarpus lancifolius) are very dangerous.

Propetus team recommended to inspect the drainage every six month and to remove the roots. The drainage was cleared of all the roots, but it is a temporary solution that can only be fully rectified by removing the tree.

Propetus team reminded me that as per the EMAAR Community Management Rules “All trees must be planted at least 1.5 metres away from villa boundary walls and Conocarpus lancifolius (Damas) trees are NOT permitted”

• Chaste tree, chaste berry, Abraham’s balm, lilac chastetree, or monk’s pepper (Vitex agnus-castus)
• Royal Poinciana, Gulmohar, Flame tree (Delonix regia)
• Neem, nimtree, Indian lilac (Azadirachta indica)
